Home for the Holidays With NTP

Dear NTP Family,

Despite the setbacks of COVID-19,  New Tampa Players has accomplished a lot in 2020.

In February, we won the 2020 WEDU BeMore Enriched Awards which honors non-profit organizations in the Tampa Bay who enriched the lives of citizens of the Tampa Bay area in the arts. We also produced our second Penguin Project production, Peter Pan Jr with a cast of 80 and a crew of 25.

In response to COVID-19, we continued to provide programming and build community- we just did it online! Our online video projects: “Things Don’t Have to Be So Grimm” and “Cats” were hits. Our social media also provided a place everyone to connect through short videos in the early days of the pandemic. We also stayed in touch with our Penguin Project community through Zoom calls with Ms. Nora on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

During the summer, we had three group writing their own original works, and we look forward to producing those in 2021. We also held Virtual Summer Camp where our campers got to learn about all of the aspects of theatre, make puppets, and write their play.

In the fall, we created Penguin Project at Home, which brings our young artists and peer mentors together to create plays, poems, visual art, and dance, all from the comfort and safety of their homes.

We also created a brand new project called “The Amazing Arts Challenge” Similar to the Amazing Race, this project brings five 2 person teams together to race around Tampa, exploring Tampa’s arts scene and competing in arts-related challenge. Although this project has been fun and exciting to create, the goal of the Amazing Arts Challenge is to bring awareness to the many arts organizations in Tampa and what they are going through due to COVID-19. We have been blessed to be able to build the arts community up during this difficult time.

The most exciting milestone NTP crossed in 2020 is our new space! We now have a space at the University Mall where we can have rehearsals, hold small black box style performances, and even store some stuff! We are very excited about being a part of the Uptown family.

We hope you will enjoy our December theme:  “Home for the Holidays with NTP”. Here on our website and on our social media, we will be decorating our space for the holidays, hosting virtual cast reunions, and checking in with our NTP family.

In the spirit of the holidays, we are having a holiday fundraiser. In our window display, we will have a Holiday Tree. You can help decorate our tree! When you donate to our Home for the Holidays fundraiser, we will put a star on our tree and send you a NTP 2020 ornament! To donate, go to the top left of this page!

Thank you for your support during 2020 and beyond. NTP is going exciting places in 2021, and you can make that possible!
