ALL ROLES OPEN. This show is being cast with non-traditional casting procedures in place. All roles are open to ANY ethnicity and ability; however, please keep in mind all roles will be cast age appropriate (adults will play adults and children will play children).

Audition Requirements:

Please prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre selection. That best showcases your vocal talent. Please bring sheet music in the correct key and be prepared to move, an accompanist will be provided.

Please bring a headshot and resume, if you have one.

Those interested in being considered for Ariel and Eric please note there will be an additional movement portion to the audition to access physical capabilities such as basic stamina, strength training, and general flexibility and fluidity.

Show Description:
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World."

Ariel, King Triton's youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

Character Descriptions:
Ariel – 16 to 25, Mezzo with Strong Belt. A mermaid and King Triton’s youngest daughter. She is obsessed with everything about the human world, and dreams of becoming a part of life above the water. Strong singer and dancer who can convey meaning through gesture and movement.

*Role will perform aerials in show, prior aerial experience is a plus; however, not required. Actress must possess well developed strong body and muscle tone.

Eric – 20 to 30, Tenor (G4 to B2) A human monarch who has no interest of taking the crown. A handsome, affable lad with a buoyant, adventurous nature. Strong actor and singer.

*Role will perform aerials in show, prior aerial experience is a plus; however, not required. Actor must possess well developed strong body and muscle tone.

Sebastian – 20 to 40, Tenor/Strong Mix Belt. A meticulous and anxious crab who tries to keep Ariel safe. Strong singer and comedic actor who can do a Caribbean accent.

Flounder – 13 to 15, Tenor/Strong Mix Belt. Ariel’s best friend who is loyal to the end. Spunky actor and singer.

King Triton – 35 to 45, BariTenor. Ariel’s commanding and over-protective father. Strong commanding presence and voice.

Mersisters – 20s, Various vocal ranges, Ariel’s sisters: Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, Allana. Must be able to create a unique personality. Should be strong singers-who-move-well.

Ursula – 30s to 40s, Mezzo Belt. Manipulative sea witch who tries to overthrow King Triton. Strong actor and singer.

Flotsam and Jetsam – Any age considered, Various vocal ranges. Oily and spineless eel lackeys to Ursula. Strong character movement and voices.

Scuttle – 20s to 50s, Tenor. A loudmouthed, optimistic seagull who is an “expert” in all things human. Strong singer and dancer. Tap a plus.

Grimsby – 30s to 50s, BariTenor. Prince Eric’s stuffy British guardian. Strong comedic actor who can do a British accent.

Chef Louis – 30s to 40s, Tenor. French Palace chef with a diabolical side. Strong comedic actor and singer who can do a French accent.

Sea Chorus – Any age, Various vocal ranges. Responsible for creating each world within the show. Various smaller roles will be cast from this group. Doubles as Merfolk, Sea Creatures, Lagoon Animals, Gulls, Poor Unfortunate Souls, etc…
