Mental Health First Aid Training

Are you involved with a nonprofit theater in Tampa Bay? Would you like to learn how to help someone during a mental health challenge?

New Tampa Players has an amazing opportunity for all leaders in theatres in Tampa, whether you are a board member, a director, a choreographer, a musical director, or a member of the cast and crew.

Through an initiative by the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay and Humana, NTP is hosting a Mental Health First Aid class on Saturday, April 24th from 9AM-3:30 PM on Zoom. This initative's goal is train 5000 community leaders in the Tampa Bay area in the next 3 years.

Through this initiative, the training which normally costs between $125 and $180 dollars is completely free to each participant. The class is 6 1/2 hours long and does require 2 hours of pre-work to participate.

The training teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

The training covers:

• Common signs and symptoms of mental illness

• Common signs and symptoms of substance use

• How to interact with a person in crisis

• How to connect the person with help

•Expanded content on trauma, addiction and self-care

We have 13 slots in the training class. You can sign up here:
