Auditions for Singin’ in the Rain
New Tampa Players announces open auditions for SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN.
The “Greatest Movie Musical of All Time,” explodes onto the New Tampa Performing Arts Center stage this summer! Singin’ in the Rain has all the makings of a Tinseltown tabloid headline: the Starlet, the Leading Man, and a love affair that could make or break careers! During the waning days of the silent movie era, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a hot item on screen and in the tabloids, but behind the scenes, things aren’t always as they appear.
With the premiere of The Jazz Singer, “talking pictures” take movie theaters by storm, and all the Hollywood studios scramble to follow suit. To stay relevant, Monumental Studios must reinvent its planned silent film The Dueling Cavalier as The Dancing Cavalier, a musical picture. There’s just one problem: Lina, their star actress, can barely deliver a line, let alone sing. Enter Kathy Selden, an aspiring actress whose dulcet tones are well suited to cover Lina Lamont’s—calling into question what it means to act, how credit is distributed, and what it means to get a fair shake in the movie business.
Singin’ in the Rain is faithfully and lovingly adapted by Broadway legends Betty Comden and Adolph Green from their own original award-winning screenplay. Each unforgettable, scene, song and dance are accounted for, including the show-stopping title number “Singin’ in the Rain”! Hilarious situations, snappy dialogue and a hit-parade score of Hollywood standards make Singin’ in the Rain the perfect entertainment for any fan of the golden age of Movie Musicals.

Dance Auditions: Saturday, April 27th from 10 AM-3PM @ New Tampa Performing Arts Center
Vocal Auditions: Monday, April 29th and Tuesday, April 30th from 7-10 PM @ Uptown Stage
Dance Auditions:
Everyone wishing to audition for Singin in the Rain will need to participate in dance auditions on Saturday, April 27th at the New Tampa Performing Arts Center.
If you are auditioning for the roles of Don, Cosmo, or Kathy, please sign up for an audition slot under that heading below. Your dance audition will consist of a dance sequence and a tap sequence. Please bring jazz shoes and tap shoes.
If you are auditioning for another named role or the ensemble, please sign up for an audition slot under that heading below. Your dance audition will consist of a dance sequence and an optional tap sequence. Please bring jazz shoes and tap shoes (if doing the optional tap sequence).
If you are auditioning for the dance ensemble, please sign up under that heading below. Your dance audition will consist of a dance sequence and a tap sequence. Please bring jazz and tap shoes. You DO NOT need to participate in vocal auditions on Monday and Tuesday.
Vocal Auditions:
If you are auditioning for any named role or the ensemble, you will need to participate in vocal auditions on Monday, April 29th or Tuesday, April 30th at Uptown Stage.
If you are auditioning for the dance ensemble, you DO NOT need to participate in vocal auditions.

Directions to Uptown Stage:
Use your phone’s GPS to go to 2200 East Fowler Ave, Tampa, FL 33612. Park in the back of the mall near Burlington Coat Factory. While facing Burlington Coat Factory, follow the sidewalk to the left and between the apartment building and Burlington. Our back door has a red star on it.
